There is no denying the fact that the phenomenon of sports events is becoming ubiquitous across the globe and most countries are approaching hosting international sporting events like the Olympics or the world cup. Moreover, some people believe that this phenomenon can help host countries economically and socially. I agree with them to a large extent and my ideas for this will be explained in forthcoming paragraphs.
To commence with, hosting global events like the cricket world cup, football world cup and the Olympics can help the host nation economically by increasing the number of tourists. In other words, world level sports events attract more visitors and famous personalities including well known businessmen and they can invest their money in that country in terms of hotels, restaurants, bars and cafeteria that increase the economy. For example, the ODI world cup was hosted by India in 2023 which increase the number of visitors by 11.8% and around 34.3% of tourist invest their goods in Indian market and business. Moreover, the host nation can provide a large amount of funds by the authorities from the global sports foundation.
In addition, relations of the host country with other countries can be improved as well as the bond between the host nation and other nations who participate in that event can become stronger. Furthermore, people across the globe can meet at the same venue that increases the social value of the host country by increasing their reputation across the globe. For instance, in the Paris Olympics 2024 the highest number of visitors was recorded, and they all have come from all countries across the globe after this incident popularity of the Paris increased around the world.
To conclude, hosting international sports events can help the host countries, economically and socially and I agree with this statement largely. Hosting global sporting events can increase the number of tourists and improve the relations of the host nation with other countries.
