In this contemporary society, there still remains a controversial topic about whether the old should continue working or not. It seems to me that everything has two opposite sides – advantages and disadvantages which will be discussed below.
To begin with, senior citizens will do good for the community if they continue working. For instance, they will help relieve the burden of finances for their children and buy things they like without having to rely on anyone. For example, my grandfather is in his late 70s, but he still has his own business and always uses his own money to get my brother food and toys he likes. In addition, the aged will be able to become useful for the society where they are living. Clearly, they save the government subsidy for retirees by earning salaries and the fund can be invested into the country’s infrastructure and improve the state’s welfare, leading to enhancing the nation’s budget. As a result, seniors continued to work is beneficial for the community’s development.
On the other hand, the trend of retired individuals choosing to continue working may have adverse effects. Frankly, the stress associated with work can have a negative impact on their mental and physical health. Obviously, The stress associated with work can cause anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues, while physical exhaustion can lead to joint pain, backaches, and other health problems. Moreover, if the elderly give their priority to working, social orders will be reversed totally. Clearly, in a family, the old became the best candidates for babysitting their grandchildren because of their experience with kids. However, when the seniors do not pay much attention to their families anymore, it creates financial arguments between the kid’s parents, raising the divorce rates. In brief, it will do lots of harm to their household and even themself if the old choose to keep doing their jobs.
In conclusion, it is important to weigh the pros and cons of seniors continuing to work. While it may benefit the community and the nation’s budget, it is crucial to consider the potential negative effects on the physical and mental health of older adults along with their families.
