Some individuals are of the opinion that international films are essential in enriching a country’s culture. In contrast, others think that the production of domestic programmes is a superior option and should be emphasised. While both perspectives possess considerable merit, I am more inclined to support the latter viewpoint. Nevertheless, I contend that this topic depends largely on the circumstances involved, which will be further evaluated in this essay.
On the one hand, the arguments in favour of imported media rest on several compelling grounds. For instance, imported pieces of media can act as a way for a person to understand cultures and traditions different from their own, in order to look at the world through different lenses. This may help people to gain insight into and respect other people’s opinions and views as well as learn to appreciate their own traditions, thus creating a more harmonious environment and leading to a more interconnected society. Moreover, the welcoming of novel ideas may encourage innovation in various sectors, ranging from entertainment to even culinary inventions as new methods are blended into existing ones.
On the other hand, a cogent argument can also be made that the production and consumption of domestic films can reinforce national identity and foster solidarity. This phenomenon has been consistently proven throughout history, as pieces of media during wartime aimed at boosting morale have successfully united entire nations under one cause. In such a society, people may be more inclined to pursue personal development as they feel supported in their own community. Furthermore, the prioritisation of domestic pieces of media may improve the country’s global visibility and influence, consequently exposing its traditions on an international stage.
In conclusion, despite the complexity of this issue and the divergence of opinions surrounding it, I ultimately believe that governments should greatly emphasise the production of domestic films and television programmes in order to showcase the country’s cultural heritage and broaden its political influence.
