At the heart of the debate lies country’s potential. Some people claim that it is possible for a nation to be economically rich and own a clean environment, while others argue that these two goals are incompatible. I believe that these objectives are well-matched as government can encourage people to be economically sustainable without harming the environment.
On the one hand, to be economically successful and have a clean environment are not neccessarily well-matched since being economically sustainable requires industrialization which may cause pollution. In many cities today, factories, mining, and transport increase emission which is very harmful to the environment. Paradoxically, efforts to achieve economic stability may come at the expense of a clean environment. Therefore, economy may become oppsed to maintaining a clean environment or vice versa.
On the other hand, the possibility of achieving both economic stability and clean environment is very high. Government can enforce some rules to protect environment, while becoming economically successful. They can encourage green technology which is the most important factor driving growth, renewable energy such as solar or wind energy help reducing pollution, and creating new industries. Solar energy can be seen as a good example. It does not produce air pollution or greenhouse gases. While in an economic side, solar enrgy helps households generate their own power, making them less dependant on national electricity supply. Consequently, such environmentally friendly innovations can boost overall income, and promote clean environment.
In conclusion, while it may be hard to achieve both economy and clean environment as they become opposed to each other, I stronly believe innovations such as solar energy or wind energy can promote both sustainable economy and a clean environment.
