It is believed by some people that people working in professions like doctors and teachers should be paid in equal terms as media personalities such as athletes or talk show hosts. This essay agrees with this thought, as professionals like doctors and teachers have more demanding requirements and schedules, and have more qualifications that justify their reason for payment equal to these celebrities.
As mentioned earlier, people working in white-collar jobs have more practical, and demanding requirements to fulfill in order to contribute to society. People who are doctors have to work day-long shifts, often without breaks, in order to check on patients or perform surgery. Teachers have to take classes at least 8 hours a day, ensuring no student goes home illiterate. These professionals have to earn their right to serve the people by obtaining qualifications such as a GED or a MBBS to even get certified, plus years of experience. But, celebrities can easily get a huge sum of money by simply signing endorsement deals or promoting specific brands, which highlights the real-life paradox in this society.
However, it would be wrong to not admit that a job’s pay is also dependent upon someone’s skill, and market presence. We only hear more about the media personalities, e.g actors, who have the highest pay in movies, and less about that struggling B-list actor. There is a similar discrimination in terms of pay within different entertainment industries, where one has to be popular amongst the audience in order to get paid well. In addition, personalities as talk show hosts also have very hectic schedules for shooting, interviews and much more that we don’t hear about. We are only accustomed to hearing about their lavish lifestyles, but not the continuous efforts they have made to achieve that success.
In conclusion, it is still agreed majorly that working professionals as doctors and teachers should be paid on equal terms with these celebrities, as they have more stressful requirements to fulfill, and undergo multiple hardships that most public figures never go through.
