Band 8+: Some people believe that reading is always a good habit. Others feel it depends on which books a person is reading. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many feel that reading is an invariably good hobby, while others argue that this is mostly dependent on the books’ content. In my opinion, the subject matter included in books plays a crucial role in determining whether reading is a positive pastime.

Those in favor of reading can point to regular readers possessing a higher level of concentration. Those who read, regardless of the content, are more able to stay focused as they have to actively engage with the text to comprehend and process new information. This is backed by scientific research indicating that reading is neurologically demanding and therefore requires greater concentration. This aids individuals in becoming less easily distracted by notifications on mobile devices and boosting productivity.

However, I would contend that the books’ content determines the intrinsic benefits that readers receive. On the one hand, reading is one way to develop imagination and creativity as readers are forced to translate text into vivid mental images. This benefit is especially true with creative fantasy novels like Harry Potter where readers encounter the invention of various mythical creatures and magic spells. This can in turn give readers inquiring minds to become more innovative and better problem-solvers. On the other hand, readers frequently exposed to negative news can have an unrealistically pessimistic view on life. A good example of this is that those who read tabloid newspapers and sensationalist news reports tend to have greater feelings of anxiety and dissatisfaction.

In conclusion, despite an improved level of focus engendered from reading, this habit is only beneficial if readers choose appropriate materials. Individuals should be cognizant of these facts when adopting reading as their daily habit

Whether human personality and development are primarily determined by genetic inheritance or lifetime experience remains a widely debated topic among psychologists and sociologists. While biological traits establish a foundational baseline, I strongly believe that environmental factors and personal experience ultimately exert a more effect on an individual’s character and growth. Proponents of biological determinism argue […]

Nowadays it is likeable that people can hire workers who can do some kinds of chores such as housework, purchasing groceries, and daily child care.
