It has been widely discussed whether to focus on academic skills such as mathematics and science to develop the schooling system or to choose art and music as students’ major disciplines. While I support the idea that academic skills are more important in modern society, I am convinced that art and music contribute to a spiritual awakening in people.
On the one hand, because of the current tough conditions on the planet, some members of society find it better to be academically educated in primary and secondary schools due to the economic context in all aspects of life. In this case, subjects like math and science play a vital role in the improvement of the quality of life. For instance, the majority of jobs demand scientific and mathematical skills from employees, whether it is engineering, IT, or even politics. Therefore, numerous educational institutions engage students in studying academic disciplines from an early age. Though I support this suggestion, I consider art and music to be more useful for young people.
On the other hand, people who participate in any art and music classes have their own reasons for thinking that these subjects give more pleasure and satisfaction in the work process. Take Renaissance art as an example; in the medieval era, when the epoch of the Renaissance was prospering, many notable individuals contributed not only to the cultural development of Europe, but also to the political and economic conditions of almost all countries by creating and implementing priceless masterpieces. Afterward, citizens found contemporary ways of developing themselves while collaborating with social and political spheres as a whole. Therefore, I believe that art and music could create soul enlightenment for a human.
In conclusion, although academic subjects like mathematics and science are crucial for career development, art and music are equally important for personal growth, as they foster creativity, emotional expression, and contribute to a well-rounded, fulfilled life.
