Non-scholastic activities have always been a controversial and attention-grabbing topic in terms of education and in many schools’ curriculum. There are many individuals who believe these extracurricular activities are unessential additions and educational institutions should dedicate more in educating scholars on academic subjects, while other people believe it is equitably important for students to take part in extracurricular activities. This essay will examine and discuss both perspectives.
On the one hand, these enrichment activities take away study time from undergraduates, which could lead to a decline in the youngsters’ academic performance. Furthermore, it is not viable to force students into doing what is unneeded in the school curriculum, which could cause exhaustion for students, from doing the activities consistently, causing excess stress for these juveniles’ lives and cause a decline in the school’s reputation. Finally, it is essential to be attentive and listen to student’s opinions on extracurricular activities as it can help schools understand the viewpoints of their scholars.
On the other hand, these activities are known to assist scholars in their mental development and in puberty. Simple activities, such as drama, sports and music can help undergraduates to become more productive, and help them find out what they enjoy most. Extracurricular activities have to possibility to improve one’s creativity, problem-solving skills and intelligence, contributing to their academic achievements. Furthermore, these non-scholastic activities can help them improve their communication skills, giving them a large advantage in life.
Extracurricular activities undoubtedly have its downsides. But from my perspective, extracurricular activities should be necessary for scholars, since the positive effects outweigh the negative ones, if students learn to manage time.
