In contemporary society, many individuals think that the development of social media helps people to improve their communication and connectivity whereas others think that it is the main reason for social isolation and misinformation. This development possesses both benefits and drawbacks, but I strongly believe the disadvantages are greater.
On the one hand, social media has many outstanding advantages which can help people a lot in their daily activities. The first one is that it is really convenient for everyone to connect with their family and their relatives. Social media is one of the best methods to communicate with everyone even if we stay at home and want to share something special with our parents and our relatives. As a result, people tend to use social media to keep in touch with their distant relatives when they do not have time or chance to meet them face to face. Additionally, social media can be a place where people store their memory and share their journey. For example, when a family who is on a Da Lat trip can pose their pictures to share with their friends and also store it for some special occasions where they can remember their happy memory.
On the other hand, social media has some significant disadvantages. First of all, when people rely too much on social media, they can suffer from many diseases related to emotions. Young people who spend too much time surfing the internet without going out will be shy and close themself when meeting a real person. As a result, youngsters will be like a turtle hiding in a tortoiseshell and do not spend time meeting other people. Moreover, depending too much on social media can make individuals lack knowledge. For example, people who only stay at home and do not go anywhere will not have any knowledge about traditional and culture all around the world like the other ones who usually travel to many places to explore everything.
In conclusion, although social media has both merits and demerits, I am in complete agreement that the drawbacks are more significant. This is because people can suffer from many diseases related to emotions and depending too much on social media can make individuals lack knowledge.
