It is widely believed that building contemporary facilities is cheaper than the renovation of historic buildings. I completely agree with this view, because it requires extensive repairs, and lots of workers with specialist materials.
One of the reasons why restoring these buildings can be expensive is its damaged areas. Most old facilities may contain serious damages, such as broken roofs, walls and electrical systems, resulting in a lot of expenses. To repair such things, builders should spend prolonged days by working carefully, paying attention to specific details like fixing small holes. They can be unnoticeable, but there is a high chance that they might affect its durability. One missed stage leads to having less efficiency, so workers relatively waste their half of energy. Therefore, extensive repairs to this kind of place might not be cheaper as they take a lot of time and labour.
Another reason is the huge number of tools of high quality. Historical buildings may require traditional techniques and materials that are difficult to find. For instance, handmade bricks are not available almost everywhere because of the implementation of machines. Even people have the possibility to find those, bricks often cost more than modern alternatives such as beton, steel or composite materials. Because rare materials may need to be brought from distant places, and they are often made specifically for restoration. For this reason, individuals feel like buying simple alternatives that can be found more quickly.
To sum up, I strongly believe that it is better to clear old stores to make way for modern ones because it involves substantial repair work and unique materials.
