In recent years, technology has become an integral part of our life. Among the diverse electronic devices people rely on daily, CCTV and body scanners have raised the most concerns about their impact on our privacy.However, I believe that such tools have more merits, as they are crucial in securing our safety.
The most significant concern about monitoring systems is their potential threat to privacy in several ways. To exemplify, many of us have occasionally received improper instructions when we have gone through airport scanners, such as being forced to show security guards our belongings simply because the outline looks suspicious.In addition to public issues, some criminals even hide CCTVs in people’s homes to satisfy their malicious curiosity, or directly threaten the inhabitants to earn profits. These incidents have made the public worried about their privacy and have forced governments to take action to prevent such crimes.
While privacy issues truly exist, on the other side of the spectrum, however, these devices have significantly enhanced our general safety. Before the prevalence of such security measures, many crimes could not be tracked due to a lack of evidence, which led to criminals escaping and fear among the majority.In contrast, criminals today are totally surrounded by CCTVs, and everyone must go through scanners before taking public transport, so citizens are able to live a much more secure life.Apart from controlling crime, technology also contributes to overseeing children. When children are alone at home, many accidents may occur, causing parents to worry and lose concentration at work. CCTV, which allows parents to track their children’s conditions, can address this problem and allow adults to focus on work with relief.
In conclusion, I hold the point that the comprehensive security and relief surveillance tools provide is essential and capable of outweighing its drawbacks.On the downside, however, there are risks of them being manipulated to cause damage, so measures should be taken to restrict their use. Only by finding a balance between security and privacy can we truly live a satisfying life.
