Healthcare services are one of the most fundamental necessities of all citizens of a nation in present scenario. Therefore, one school of thought believes that it is a prime responsibility of the government to offer healthcare to every citizen free of charge. While others argue that individuals should take care of their own healthcare expenses. This essay will discuss both these perspectives and offer a reasoned conclusion along with my own opinion.
To begin with, there are some benefits of government providing free healthcare to all citizens. First of all, individual’s health is of at most importance because healthy citizens contribute to rapid economic growth of a country. Free healthcare services ensure that people could avail required treatment and diagnosis during the times of illnesses. Additionally, it would not put them under tremendous financial burden, particularly those who are not capable to pay expensive medical bills. Furthermore, this can enable people to focus on other basic priorities in life. For example, In Germany, government take complete care of its citizens health and people do not pay any bill when suffer from any diseases. They are only required to buy certain medical insurance and rest is well taken care.
On the other hand, there are numerous advantages medical bills to be paid by individuals. If citizens pay bill themselves, they would be aware of the medical cost. This will make them take precautionary measures and take good care of their own health by indulging in healthy diet and regular exercises. It is seen if healthcare is provided by government, then people might take this for granted and may not pay attention to healthy lifestyle. Also this helps government to focus on healthcare for elderly and low income population. Also government could prioritize on other major aspects or developmental needs of the country.
In my opinion, free healthcare should be only provided to the aged and poor population who are unable to afford the expensive medical bills. All other citizens should care of their healthcare requirement and primarily focus on better lifestyle and precautionary measures.
In conclusion, government should identify the group of people require free healthcare and provide them the benefits and all other people should pay their own medical bills.
