In recent years, the issue of government responsibility has become increasingly controversial. Some people believe that government should be accountable for public health, while others argue that individuals are responsible for their own health. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument before I give my own opinion.
One of the main reasons why some people support accountability for public health is that authorities have a duty to protect through policy and funding. For example, New York’s tax aimed curb sugar consumption and reduce obesity. Furthermore, government intervention like banning smoking in public places and taxing sugary drinks can influence behavior.
On the other hand those who argue responsibility for their own believe that people must take accountability for their lifestyle choices. They contend that smoking, lack of exercise, and poor diet are personal choices that significantly impact health. Additionally, even with access to healthcare, unhealthy habits leads to preventable illnesses.
In conclusion, while both sides of the argument have valid points, I firmly believe that individuals should be accountable for their own health.
