In recent years, governments have been investing heavily in roads infrastructure and public transportation to reduce pollution and reduce the cost of goods. While some people believe that investing more in public transportation is necessary, others argue that improving road infrastucture and building more highways takes priority. I believe that governments should invest in both views to achieve optimal transportation and better infrastructure.
On one hand, governments around the world are investing heavily in public transportation such as buses and metros. This helps in reducing traffic congestion and controlling air pollution. For instance, Mumbai is building new metro lines connecting different sections of the city. After completion, it is estimated that it will reduce the commute by 20 to 25 percent. Furthermore, this will improve the air quality of Mumbai. Therefore, investing in public transportation is necessary for better air quality and cutting down commute time.
On the other hand, investing to improve roads and building more highways is also crucial for a nation’s growth. Better roads and highways will allow transporters to save time and fuel, which further decreases the prices of goods. For example, in several Indian cities such as Pune, well constructed roads and highways have reduced commute times. Furthermore, the cost of transportation in Pune is fairly less compared to other Indian cities. Therefore, in the long run, investing in road infrastructure and building more highways will help in bringing down the cost of goods.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that governments should invest in both views, and by doing so, they will reduce the cost of goods, reduce traffic congestion and improve the air quality.
