The debate whether the government should provide financial support to retirees or if individuals should save for their own retirement is significant. A balanced approach, in my perspective, where both the government and individuals contribute is the most effective way.

First and foremost, from the regime angle, the government has a fundamental role in supporting the elder. Naturally, humans have a restricted life span, meaning that they have limited productivity. When they are old, their healthcare needs increase, and their earning potential decreases. Under this situation, many may not have survived enough due to low wages or unforeseen circumstances like illness. Government assistance ensures these individuals do not fall into poverty. For instance, countries like Sweden have robust public pension systems that provide financial security for retirees, reflecting a societal commitment to caring for the elderly. Subsequently, government support for retirees also contributes to social stability. This is since a society that neglects its aging population risks creating an impoverished underclass, leading to increased healthcare costs and social unrest. As a result, public pensions and benefits ensure all retirees have a basic level of financial security, promoting a cohesive and stable society.

On the other hand, individuals should also take personal responsibility for their retirement savings. Encouraging personal savings alleviates some of the financial burden on government resources, making the pension system more sustainable. For example, in the United States, many individuals contribute to 401(k) plans to supplement social security benefits, ensuring a more comfortable retirement. Moreover, personal responsibility in pension plans fosters a sense of financial literacy and discipline. If individuals actively saved and invested their incomes during their productive age into some saving schemes for their future, they would be more likely to have informed financial decisions throughout their lives. This is because elderly people would own their financial notes and strategy segmented on saving and expanding their overall revenue. This proactive approach can lead to better financial outcomes and reduce dependence on government aid when they are in an unproductive phase.

Finally, a combined approach where the government provides a safety net while individuals are encouraged to save for their own retirement is the most practical solution. This dual strategy ensures financial support for all retirees and promotes personal responsibility and financial independence, creating a secure future for the aging population.
