In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate about whether a shorter work week with a longer weekend benefits workers. While this idea has numerous advantages, I hold the opinion that it may not be suitable for some individuals. This essay will discuss both perspectives, before presenting my own view.
On the one hand, many people support this idea because it gives more time to personal lives. Many workers today have to face financial pressure, or even family expectations, leading to work overtime and not having enough time for themselves. This results in stress levels and poor overall well-being. Therefore, a longer weekend helps improve mental health, and allows individuals to engage in activities that they enjoy. As a consequence, they may feel more motivated and improve work-life balance when they return, enhancing better productivity at work.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that this notion also holds considerable weight. For instance, workers may have less time for team bonding. When they have fewer hours a week to complete their tasks, something has to go. In other words, they might see fewer opportunities for team meetings, or casual interactions in the office, which helps build strong relationships. As a result, one cannot overlook the significance of this notion in ensuring effective teamwork and collaboration.
In conclusion, I partly agree that working fewer hours per week to work and having more time to unwind appears advantageous in certain respects. Nevertheless, I am convinced that this also has disadvantages, making it not practical for all employees.
