Band 5+: Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes (for example working for charity, improving the neighborhood, or teaching sports to young children).

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

High schools in some countries propose work experience programs for their students such as as charity jobs, educational or social work as compulsory. In my opinion, such activities should be optional in their syllabus due to being more productive if young people have desire to help.

Community services can be beneficial for both society and students themselves. Although teenagers do not have payment, they can feel proud of themselves by contributing to particular social groups. As a result, non-monetary motivation could be even more apretiated, consequently, raising their self-esteem. For organisations, which need staff, it would be valuable help. For instance, charity shops sometimes struggle to find volunteers, so additional labor would be great for those organisations. Newertheless, every studend should have an varuety of options to choose job for themselves.

On the other hand, if children do not appreciate some activities which they pushed to do, it could turn a problem. This is because a job without any motivation would be unproductive for a social projects. Moreover, it could even be harmful if the job would be done in poorly. For example, if students provide sports classes for primary schools, lack of enthusiasm and willingness to deliver a good service would lead to the unhappy small children. Consequently, no any positives for the society and students themselves.

In conclusion, there are many advantages in unpaid community services, although it has some drawbacks. I strongly believe that those services should be optional in the high school to avoid unhappy students and unsatisfied organisations.

Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes (for example working for charity, improving the neighborhood, or teaching sports to young children).

Opinions are divided on whether community service should become obligatory programs in high school or not. While this proposal could have certain negative impacts, I believe its associated advantages far outweigh them. Admittedly, making community service a compulsory activity at school can be bad in some ways related to students’ academic performance and organization finances. […]
