People have different views about whether watching TV is negative or positive for youngsters’ development. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss both perspectives before giving my opinion.
On the one hand, there are reasons why many people support the statement that watching TV, is negative for youngsters’ development. Firstly, looking at electronic screens for a long time can make toddlers addicted to TV and ignore studying. Nowadays many young boys and young girls cannot take their eyes off the TV screen, and after spending many hours on the electronic box, their eyes get dried and tired which makes them have no energy left to do homework. And since they do not do homework to practice the lesson they have been taught at school, their education outcome gets worse.
On the other hand, I firmly believe that TV can be a tool for children’s intellectual growth. It’s not just about entertainment; there are educational shows that can broaden their horizons. These shows, often designed as teaching aids, introduce children to new words, thereby enriching their vocabulary. Additionally, some programs prepare children for real-life situations, such as dealing with emergencies like abduction and robbery. These are scenarios that children may have yet to encounter, but with the proper guidance from TV shows, they can be better prepared.
In conclusion, while there are those who argue against TV viewing for children, I am inclined to believe that when approached with caution and moderation, it can have a positive influence on their development. However, each of us must weigh the arguments and make an informed decision based on our circumstances and beliefs.
