Space research is becoming a prominent area of research for various governments around the globe. However, there seems to be a perception amongst few that there is an unnecessary overspending of financial resources by the government especially, when there are several pertinent issues to be resolved on Earth. Even though space research is imperative for exploring our future avenues, I do not agree with governments indulging in overspending of resources while neglecting the current needs on Earth.
Ignoring pressing concerns for only a futuristic space vision can be detrimental in multiple ways. To begin with, the issue of soaring prices resulting in high cost of living needs immediate governmental intervention. More than ever, it is necessary for the government to work in partnership with the central bank to regulate the rising inflation to prevent a further decline in real estate market. Similarly, rising population including an upheaval in migration is adding immense pressure on health care systems. Thereby, needing funding from government to invest more into medical infrastructure proactively.
Establishing an equilibrium that enables the governments to not only prepare for future but also the present is a rationale way of managing financial resources. Considering the promising signs of life on planets other than Earth tend to justify investment in space research. However, a well – planned funding allocation from the governments for instance, with an allocation for 20 – 30% of their annual budget seems promising. Additionally, promoting private enterprise to explore space research through investment mediums of crowd funding or venture capitalism can enable the governments to further channel their resources to current issues for planet Earth.
In conclusion, space research cannot be neglected nor can the current issues of rising prices and collapsing public systems. Instead, there is a need for a balanced research funding by the governments which additionally, amalgamates private enterprises onto the sphere of space research to holistically manage current issues concerning Earth and rightfully planning for future.
