Vegetarians are convinced that no animal ingredients will make their bodies feel better. They claim that by adopting this lifestyle, they can help the world become a better place. From my standpoint, humans still need nutrients from animal-based food, as our biological system requires.
Plant-based food provides good nutrients like carbohydrates, beta-carotene, fibres, and other vitamins and minerals with zero cholesterol and ground-level calories. It is now available in various forms, and most soybean products are processed to become artificial meat. Moreover, most of the vegetables are cheap and abundant.
On the contrary, biologically, plant-based foods are not sufficient for our metabolism system in the long run. The human body requires nutrients that can only be provided by animal products. Nutrients like calcium, iron, vitamin B complex and DHA are essential to support our daily activities, especially for toddlers and kids who need these nutrients to help reach maximum growth.
Moreover, no scientific proof exists about the environmental damage caused by consuming meat and fish. Will consuming animal products turn the planet into substandard? The vegetarian’s claim seems questionable. If they were concerned about animal abuse, especially the method of slaughterhouses, they could contribute by making a movement related to food policy that focuses on ethical farming.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the best way to suffice our body’s metabolism is by taking nutrients from not plant-based and animal-based food for better health. People can still balance the food demand by working on ethical farming. There will be no environmental issues if the integration works well.
