Animals such as monkeys and rabbits are often used in medical field to research on diseases and provide cures for human beings. Some people believe that it is inevitable to use animals in medical research to find solutions for medical-related issues, while some argue that this is an inhumane act.
Indeed, experimenting with animals in medical sector provides significant impacts on society. When researchers first identify a virus, they will inject it into the bodies of animals which behave similarly to human to investigate possible cures for that disease. Since the animals used often possess human-like immune systems and mechanisms, they facilitate the researchers in producing reliable and safe medicine for humans. Additionally, due to their nature behaviours which are similar to humans, vaccinations or antibiotics can also be tested with animals like rats beforehand to investigate possible side effects on humans. This can be exemplified by Pfizer vaccinations, which had undergone several testing stages with the animals before launching officially as the cure for coronavirus in 2019. To sum up, using animals in medical research can substantially improve the health standard of the public.
Nevertheless, some people argue that this act is disrecpecting the lives of other species, despite the fact that it improves the medical sector. While the lives of human are precious, animals also have the right to live peacefully in their own communities. When the animals are being experimented with new medications, they often suffer severely due to all the possible adverse effects that arise. In most cases, a higher dose of medication is used on animals to show the most significant results within a short period of time. As a result, the animals may experience gene mutation, leading to horrible consequences until the researchers have to perform euthanasia. Hence, people are against this act because they believe that every creature in this world deserves to live at their own will.
In my opinion, while experimenting medications with animals seems cruel in the first place, it is inevitable for the medical sector to continue this act to find cures for death-threatening diseases. I believe in the future, as the world becomes more and more advanced, professions may find an alternative to replace the role being played by animals in the medical sector, promoting the belief that all creatures in the world have the right to live.
