Nowadays, as studying has become essential, most young people want to get a degree. A high number of individuals believe that the costs of running universities should be covered by the government, so education will therefore be free and available to anyone who deserves it. Personally, as a student myself, I extremely support this notion for a couple of reasons.
To begin with, a free education is a great opportunity for those who are truly dedicated to their passion and have high motivation to study. That means talented students could reach their maximum potential, no matter what their family’s financial situation is. Therefore, it creates fair conditions for all students. In addition, it is a common practice in some regions of Europe. For instance, 90% of the Czech Republic’s universities are covered by the government, and anyone who has a language certificate or passed their final exams can enroll there.
Moreover, paying for education may lead to immensely high debt. A recent study showed that in countries such as the United States, individuals still pay for their studies long after graduating. Furthermore, it could cause a considerable amount of stress and pressure for them and their families. Therefore, this may demotivate individuals and make them give up on their studies, as they may think that it is simply not worth it.
In conclusion, it is becoming a widespread belief that university education should be free. Personally, I totally agree with that idea because of its various advantages.
