Nowadays, universities plays an important role in society for developing science and technology. Some people argue that universities can make conditions easier for poor people to enroll and use facilities. I partly agree with this statement.
One the one hand, more people in the world are in villages and have financial problems for improving their education, while in cities the opposite has become the case and more citizens can enjoy using educational facilities which results higher literacy rate in cities than villages. If universities provide a condition to help less afluent people to easier enter the university, more people from this economic class of society can purse their higher education and they won not fail because of their financial condition. Hence, education equity is observed in society. For example, in Iran since 2010, University of Tehran has a kind of limited acceptance for students who are in poverty, as a result, the literacy rate in many rural areas has been increasing.
On the other hand, facilities entery condition to university for candidates from rural areas students with unstable financial condition might put fiscal burden on the universities’ shoulder. In fact, many higher education institutes have limited enough budget which might not be enough to both pay for universities’ ongoing expenses and funding less afluent and disadvantages candidates. Therefore, shortage in budget and financial problems might negatively impact the quality of education in universities and cause them to lose the global scientific position.
In conclusion, although I believe that assisting students from rural areas and low economic class of the society to enter the university results in education equity, it probably makes some financial difficulties for the universities in term of providing high quality education and facilities.
