Some claim that video games are fun and can even be useful later in life, whereas others argue that the impact of such digital games on people playing them is adverse. I personally believe that the drawbacks of this phenomenon outshine the benefits it offers.
There are several upsides of this trend. Many people are now busier than ever, either with their work or studies. Computer games can be an escape from this hectic lifestyle, allowing people who actively play them to relax and feel therapeutic shortly after. A further advantage is the opportunity to make money online. Many streamers, renowned for playing video games, such as IShowSpeed and KSI became, financially stable after pursuing this career. This choice might also help aspiring streamers turn their fun habits into permanent income eventually.
Despite the advantages, this shift has also negative effects. One drawback is that those who are addicted to computer games tend to spend excessive time on screen, which could make them prone to several physical health issues like eye strain, headaches, and weight gain. A 2024 study revealed that as the time allocated to digital games increases, so does the likelihood of facing such health issues. Another downside is the waste of time. Instead of spending time on meaningful activities such as focusing on self-improvement, participating in family gatherings, or building networks with other people, many waste their time playing video games, an action about which they could regret in the long run.
In conclusion, although playing computer games entails some advantages, such as the opportunity to relax and make money, they are not as significant as the disadvantages, including health issues and an eventual regret in the future.
