There are many factors drawing consumers toward a specific product. These could include price, value, color, reliability, and most importantly popularity. if we examine the most renowned names, we are most likely to encounter the ones that are most consistently and advertised through various platforms. A tangible illustration of this point could be seen in footwear. The companies that spend most on advertisement are Nike and Adidas, which, respectively, accounted for 25 and 18 percent sporting shoes market share worldwide in 2022. These two companies have managed to take over the market by allocating billions of dollars to promote their products throughout the world. The same principle extends to other goods; the more frequently and they are seen on television, billboards, the internet, the more likely they are to boost their sales.
Nevertheless, a counter argument suggests that advertisement has lost its power and it is no longer appealing to the public. This assertion is grounded on the assumption that familiarity brings contempt. In other words, individuals tend to lose interest in something or someone if they are constantly exposed to them. A contributing factor to this reality is the plethora of pop-up ads we experience on various websites and social media, which are often quite irritating.
In my opinion, however, advertisement plays a crucial role in the success of a business, provided that it is targeted at the right audience at the right time. For instance, no matter how adeptly a commercial for a video game is made, if it is broadcast during school hours, when the potential consumers, teenagers, are at school, it is likely to fail to fulfill its objective.
