It is true that nowadays the choice of leisure time activities has been becoming controversial topic. While some people believe that children should choose themselves, I agree to those who are in the opinion of parents are in charge of preferring free time activities according to children’s interests. In this essay, I will discuss both arguments and prove my own idea in this issue.
On the one hand, there is an often-quoted idea that kids should be free to choose activities which they will be involved in their leisure time for several reasons. Firstly, they have to study a number of compulsory subjects even though they are not interested in them, then why they should not have a choice of preferring at least free time activities? ! Secondly, some parents really want their children to participate in an activity which is not suitable to child’s personality. There are many kids who are shy and introvert naturally, if they are forced to take a participance in uncomfortable courses, it would cause a serious effect on a kid’s psychology. This phenomenon has happened with my own niece several years ago, which proved the fact of parents’ desires are not always fit with child’s mental condition.
On the other hand, parents need to be responsible for every single minute of their offspring’s day. It is very essential to control what children are doing in their free time, since the world has been filling with dangers and threats for life. For instance, if a child is left uncontrolled, he or she tends to spend time on internet which can be harmful for health and mind. Moreover, such early age kids are not capable of choosing correct activity for themselves. It is easy for them to be impressed by others, even if not suitable for their age and condition. This incident would lead a disaster that ends up with many threats to children’s life, including mental and psychological deterioration. I am fond of organizing a leisure time activity by parents with taking into account of kids’ interests. With this way, parents can be aware of what their children are doing and kids also would enjoy spending their time engaged in favorite fields.
In conclusion, while many individuals are debating in the topic of who is responsible for choosing free time activities, I mentioned a relevant opinion above which both sides can benefit from it.
