In modern education, there is an ongoing debate about which subjects should be prioritized in the school curriculum. Although studying History provides students with an understanding of human behavior and national heritage, I believe that schools should prioritize STEM subjects because they directly prepare schoolchildren for modern careers.

On the one hand, including History in classroom learning offers essential social and personal values for young learners. First of all, studying historical events help students understand human behavior and past mistakes. When schools teach about major political decisions and past conflicts, they help pupils build critical thinking skills that are useful for future leadership and citizenship. Furthermore, History lessons allow schoolchildren to connect with their ethnic identity and national heritage. In a globalized world, learning about local heritage in the classroom ensures that children keep their cultural identity alive, which STEM subjects alone cannot offer.

On the other hand, I firmly believe that schools should prioritize STEM subjects because they directly prepare students for real-world challenges. For one thing, school science classes equip young people with practical knowledge to solve global issues. For instance, students who study environmental science or chemistry at school can later develop green technologies to tackle climate change and plastic pollution. In addition, schools need to align their teaching with the modern job market, which urgently demands technical skills. By focusing more on Science and Technology in the classroom, schools provide pupils with a strong foundation to pursue high-demand careers in engineering and medicine after graduation.

To conclude, although studying History plays a valuable role in developing students’ critical thinking and national identity, I maintain that schools must prioritize STEM disciplines. In today’s fast-changing world, focusing on Science and Technology in the classroom is essential to prepare pupils for future job market demands and global challenges.

The question of whether schools should offer children moral education as well as standard curricula has become increasingly pertinent.
