Some people believe newspapers to the best news source while others think the internet is superior. I agree with the latter view.
Newspapers, however, offer certain upsides. First, they are more reliable. This is because before news is published, it goes through a rigorous fact-checking process, which usually ensures the credibility of the news. In contrast, on internet sources, user-generated content is prevalent, often leading to misinformation. Professional reporting is another advantage of newspapers over the internet. News publication is a multi-stage process, encompassing editing, proofreading, and designing, which ensures that news reaches audiences in the best way possible. On the other hand, news reported by hobbyist journalists sometimes contains grammatical and spelling errors, which can undermine the quality of the news.
These arguments notwithstanding, I still believe the internet is the best way to be aware of current affairs. First and foremost, it offers accessibility. Users can now consume news on the go and in-depth analyses are available from a vast array of online sources. This is particularly advantageous when receiving breaking news, which usually goes viral within minutes. Newspapers, however, lacks such immediacy. Another significant point is the internet allows users to curate personalized news diet. This customization means people can choose sources and content that align with their interests and perspectives. For example, if a person is interested in sports news, they can personalize their feed to receive only such news, without constantly being bombarded with irrelevant information.
In conclusion, although newspapers can be an effective way to read news, they cannot compete with internet sources because news on the internet is more accessible and can be customized to better match the users’ needs.
