Band 6+: Some people say that government should spend public money on saving endangered languages. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The small group of people are spoken on some languages which are on the verge of extinction. Some people believes, that governments ought finance these languages to preserve it,whilst others believe that this would be a waste of money.I believe that,we should protect languages which on the verge of extinction.

One of the primary reasons why governments should invest in saving endangered languages is that languages are an integral part of a community’s cultural identity. Moreover, it is often the heritage, cornerstone of a community’s and its loss will have a large number of negative consequences. For instance, ways of communication in Kazakhstan are Kazakh, uzbek,Russian languages, and each is distributed in different countries but has great value due to the stories of origin in the regions. Therefore, it is imperative that governments take active steps to preserve these languages, not just for the benefit of the community but also as a way to enrich the cultural diversity of the nation.

On the other hand, some may argue that allocating public funds to preserve endangered languages is a luxury that governments can ill afford, especially when there are more pressing issues such as poverty, healthcare, and education that require immediate attention. However, I disagree that the preservation of languages is, in fact, closely linked to these very issues. For example, research has shown that bilingual education, which involves teaching students in their mother tongue, can have a positive impact on academic achievement and social mobility. Therefore, investing in language preservation can have a good effect on other areas of social development.

Furthermore, language preservation can also have economic benefits. Many endangered languages are spoken in rural areas, where tourism is a significant contributor to the local economy. By preserving these languages, governments can, in fact, create new opportunities for sustainable tourism, which can have a positive impact on local economies.
