In many countries, governments have enforced laws to provide health care and educational programs for the people, as their citizens believe it is the responsibility of the government to do so. Others, however, believe that each individual is responsible for their own health and education. While individuals can look after their health and find educational opportunities that are suitable for them, I believe the responsibility of providing these opportunities solely rests on the government’s shoulders.
On the one hand, every person has different needs for education and healthcare, and governments cannot cater to each person’s needs. For example, a person in their mid-twenties would benefit more from educational opportunities compared to a person who is in their mid-fifties, nearing retirement. By taking the responsibilities of looking for help onto themselves, each individual will be able to fulfill their needs a lot more effectively than the government.
On the other hand, governments have the authority and power to support systems that promote health care and education. It is the job of country leaders to take care of their citizens, and in their position of power, they can allocate a lot more resources to establish programs for their people. For instance, governments can write laws to support the elderly and create scholarship programs to facilitate higher education, giving the citizens access to opportunities they would not be able to have.
Overall, even though individuals should look after themselves and find suitable health care and education, it is ultimately the governments’ responsibilities to provide health care systems and educational institutions that can support their citizens’ needs.
