Public transport is considered to be the most important factor for the prosperity of modern cities, whereas the opponents of this view claim that there are other requirements for the growth of the city. I completely agree with the latter view.
It cannot be denied that public transport is vital for modern cities. With the introduction of new, much faster and eco-friendly buses along with trams, the traffic congestion is highly likely to fall since people don’t have to purchase cars to commute. By this way, the pollution is also may be reduced. However, decent transport system alone is not sufficient for city systems. One of the most crucial requirements for a modern city is basic utilities such as electricity, water, and waste management. Without these amenities, life is simply impossible.
Furthermore, infrastructure is another key factor for modern cities. It includes the construction of innovative schools, hospitals which can provide with free healthcare services, and housing blocks for individuals to live. The availability of these places is extremely essential as the health and education of people is above all. The addition of more green spaces is another clue for a healthy lifestyle in cities, namely planting numerous trees and flowers in parks and streets may improve the air quality and dercrease the risk of respiratory deseases
To conclude, In my opinion, even though the development of effective public transport system is important, there are other public needs that ought to be considered.
