Many people claim that the government should invest in health care and education instead of constructing theatres and stadiums. While it is undeniable that the authorities should allocate national budget to medical care and education, I would argue that it is also necessary to build cinemas and stadiums
To begin with, there are several reasons why the government should spend money on medical care and education. The first one is that the fund of the country invests in healthcare in some fields, such as medical facilities and equipment, which ensure early and exact diagnosis and effective treatment for patients. For instance, PET/CT, which is an imaging modality in Radiology, assists in the initial detection of certain metastatic cancers and, thereby, improves patient survival rates. In addition, investment in education helps increase the skill level and knowledge of the workforce. This enhances the quality of the human resource. As a result, a strong workforce helps strengthen the country’s global standing. Unless individuals receive proper education, they may resort to criminal activities as a means of survival, eventually becoming a burden on society.
However, I would contend that we should also invest in theaters and sports stadiums. Firstly, individuals will have a wide range of entertainment activities, which boosts their mental well-being. For example, after long working hours, citizens easily reward themselves by going to the cinema or watching a football match at the stadium to enjoy performances. Otherwise, people stay at home and watch TV or use smartphones, and citizens can feel stifling. Secondly, iconic stadiums and theatres become symbols of national pride. Wembley Stadium in the UK or Grand Rex in France are typical examples. This raises economic benefits from developing tourism based on these symbols.
In conclusion, although the investment of the government in healthcare and education to improve citizens’ quality of life and human resources for the nation, I believe funding for cinema and stadium also plays a vital role in promoting mental well-being and tourism development from cultural identity
