Band 9: Some people spend a lot of money on weddings. Why do they do this? Do you think it is good to spend a lot of money on weddings?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The proclivity to allocate substantial financial resources towards wedding ceremonies has become increasingly prevalent in contemporary society. Several factors contribute to this phenomenon, and I contend that it ultimately represents a misguided trend.

A primary motivation for the extravagant expenditure associated with weddings is the desire to impress guests. Couples often seek to evoke admiration and respect from their attendees through a lavish presentation. For example, many newlyweds perceive a grandiose celebration as a symbol of social standing and personal achievement. Furthermore, the belief that marriage is a once-in-a-lifetime event catalyzes individuals to elevate the significance of the occasion, thus driving them to invest in ostentatious displays that create lasting memories.

However, despite understanding the reasons behind such lavish spending, I maintain that funneling exorbitant amounts of money into weddings is an unfavorable trend. The resources expended on these celebrations could be far better utilized in establishing a secure future. For instance, couples might consider investing in real estate, saving for retirement, or addressing pressing family financial needs instead of allocating funds to fleeting festivities. Additionally, large-scale weddings often contribute to a detrimental ecological impact. The excessive use of flowers, decorations, and food not only generates significant waste but also exemplifies the misallocation of resources, such as single-use utensils and extravagant lighting, which collectively harm the environment.

In conclusion, while it is evident that there are valid reasons for individuals to invest heavily in weddings – such as the desire to make a lasting impression and commemorate their marital union – I assert that this trend is ultimately detrimental. Prioritizing future stability and environmental responsibility holds greater significance, particularly in today’s world.
