In modern society, full development has already become a basic requirement for students. Under this background, especially of those who study in high school, they are not only asked to learn Mathematics or English, but also painting or drawing. This essay aims to explore the importance of those subjects before handing out whether it should be made compulsory or not.
A nonnegligible point is that there is the interrelationship between different subjects. While we study physics or chemistry, we might use the knowledge in psychology or even art. For instance, drawing the molecule’s structure involves numerous artistic methods like symmetrical drawing. Without learning some basic concepts in art might result in some comprehension problems.
Besides, making up as compulsory for high school is beneficial in training the aesthetic ability for students. Aesthetic ability requires systematic cultivation, otherwise, it would be easily affected by society’s prevailing atmosphere, which is harmful in constructing both aesthetic ability and value. Meanwhile, to use an inappropriate metaphor is that high school students are same as a water bottle, they diffuse whatever society puts in and close the lid as they become adults. Therefore, high school is the most accurate time to inject art subjects as a lighthouse in their life path.
However, some opponents argue for the rights of selection or interest. Believe me or not, those subjects won’t occupy that amount of time. Also, if they want to pursue their love subject, there are tons of ways such as learning AP (advanced placement, learning University knowledge forward), or huge amount of competition like Olympics.
In conclusion, after evaluating the necessity and potential influence against the solution, I consider the advantages of being compulsory are much larger than its defects.
