Space has been a heated topic in recent years. There is much controversy about whether the government should invest as much as possible in space research, or in fundamental needs on Earth. This essay aims to discuss both views associated to this statement.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that by developing space science, which is synonymous with the technological and scientific advancements, the living standards nowadays are improved. Taking GPS as an example, scientists use satellites to gather electromagnetic waves generated by a special part in cars, which can provide the exact place and routes to follow when drivers get lost. With spending financial resources on space exploration, scientists may find out some breakthroughs such as inhabitant planets that are appropriate for humans to live and accommodate.
On the other hand, there are several issues that need immediate attentions from authorities rather than exploring outer space. Poor people nowadays occupy a large proportion in the figures for residents, so by spending more money on organizing companies, creating more jobs, the poor can access the labour markets and have a decent job, which partly solve their financial burden. Therefore, poverty reduction would happen and some other problems such as famine will be solved. Another concern that needs solutions is education. These days, some developing countries are not allowed to provide adequate education for students due to the fact that they have to allocate funds for numerous prospects like agriculture, technology, …, and universe is one of them. As a result, children cannot receive enough knowledge to prepare for their upcoming future, which affects one’s nation adversely. By cutting off some money in this unnecessary sector, the government may supply their learners with sufficient practical information so future generations can contribute to their country’s growth.
In conclusion, it is inevitable to assume that space exploration plays an important role in one country’s growth; however, avoiding wasting much money on this aspect and trying to address some unresolved issues may bring more benefits than only concentrating on universe discovery.
