In this fast-paced world, faster means of transport will definitely aid individuals in many ways. For example: reaching work on time despite arousing late in the morning, reducing waiting hours, transportation of goods will be faster from one city to another thereby boosting economic development. But the downside to this would be more environmental damage.
To begin with, faster modes of transport would mean creating vehicles that can sustain speed and energy which will lead to consumption of raw material, industrial setup to make high quality vehicles leading to destruction of more trees and soil. More vehicles running would mean more fossil fuel combustion, air pollution, reduction in oil reserves, deforestation to introduce more roads, wildlife would become critically endangered, and the list goes on. With the existing environmental issues like global warming, I am not in favour if the government spends money on faster modes of transport because that would be disastrous to mankind.
Instead, the government can direct these funds towards measures to tackle issues related to environmental destruction or fund the creation of environmental friendly transport methods. There should be stringent regulations to see to it that these measures are being followed properly. Also, it should be the responsibility of every individual to work towards making the environment clean and friendly. For example, in my country, a group of people started the clean beach movement where people meet once every month at the beach to collect waste and later send it for recycling.
To conclude, I am not in favour of any development that will pose a risk to the environment. As individuals, it’s our sole responsibility to make this world cleaner and better for the upcoming generations and I feel government should also prioritise the costs sensibly as they are the ones who will take the final call.
