While others do not think there is still any relevance of history with inhabitants’ lives, I believe the undeniably role of history because it gives a treasure trove of knowledge.
To begin with, there is a large support from the global citizens about the connection of history with the present time. First, without history we cannot understand the roots of current problems. History can provide insights into the origins of present – day issues. One symbolized example for this perspective is about the persistent effect of Agent Orange in Vietnam and its implications for health and policy in this country. Great deals of individuals have suffered a lot from those events and been damaged not only about mental health but also about physical health. Furthermore, it can prevent future consequences. We have opportunities to learn and have experience from historical mistakes. From that, it helps us to avoid similar issues in the future and even do better.
On the other hand, many are against the relevance of history. First, it may be far from real life. Historical events may lack practical application to contemporary issues due to modern society’s differences from historical contexts. Secondly, student’s tend to pay more attention and calmness for the subjects that offer direct benefits to their future careers. They do not illustrate their enjoyness of history because they think it does not help with their future’s career. Typically, Vietnamese students prefer to learn practical subjects over history and this is a serious problem. That can lead to a consequence of no patriotism generation and the country’s dissolve.
In conclusion, I believe the role of history is essential for us though it is less relevant to modern life and career preparation. Schools can change their teaching way to help students be more likely to learn it.
