In recent times, taxpayers’ money has played a vital role in societal development. Some people believe that public funds should prioritize roads and motorways rather than public transport, while others disagree. In this essay, I will explain why I disagree with the above-mentioned statement and provide examples to support my position.

On one hand, high-quality and reliable public transport is essential for safe, enjoyable travel. This is because, when individuals travel in modern, well-maintained vehicles, they experience a sense of comfort and security. For example, if public transportation is poorly maintained and lacks safety features, people may opt for private vehicles or use their own, leading to increased air pollution and environmental harm. Therefore, investing in safe, comfortable public transport is crucial for both public safety and environmental sustainability, justifying government spending on public transit.

On the other hand, some proponents argue that increased state spending on building new roads, bridges, and highways provides significant public benefits, especially by easing traffic during peak hours and reducing accident risks. However, while building infrastructure like bridges and motorways is important, the practical and long-term advantages of investing in reliable public transport should take precedence over constructing new roads and highways. This indicates that ensuring high-quality public transport offers greater overall benefits than expanding road infrastructure.

In conclusion, while it is true that new motorways can contribute to safer travel, the benefits of well-equipped public transport far outweigh the advantages of building new roads. Therefore, I strongly agree that prioritizing investment in public transport is more essential than expanding road infrastructure.
