In today’s society, it is common belief that parents should actively read or narrate stories to children, while others argue that children must be allowed to explore books or watch TV, movies independently. In this essay, I will closely examine both viewpoints before showing my final thoughts.
Admittedly, it has been acknowledged that children can easily read books or watch movies by themselves, especially in the high-boomed rise technological era where information and entertainment are at one’s fingertips. However, the issue is that they are not prudent enough to distinguish what is beneficial and what is detrimental for themselves. For instance, the abundance of entertaining resources available on the internet also includes violent and pornography content that are improper for children’s age. As a consequence, a child who has early access to such content may have a higher proportion of doing criminal offenses than others who were guided by adults . The second matter for the need of parental guidance in children’s media exploration is that there are a variety of dangerous things in the digital world, particularly the risk of leaking private information. That pervasive issue will surge the rate of kidnapping since online hackers can have access to children’s private information, such as location, online habits and the likes, through digital reading materials.
On the other hand, as children can easily narrate books or explore media independently. This view holds that in our digital age, with easy access to a wide array of media, children can self-explore stories that interest them. Proponents of this idea suggest that this independence can foster self-reliance and encourage children to develop their own tastes and preferences. a child who choses their own books or TV shows, for example, might gravitate towards subjects they find intriguing. thereby cultivating a more personalized and meaningful relationship with media and literature.
In conclusion, while Children’s independence in reading and watching media can foster self-reliance and cultivate their own preferences or tastes but child also can early access with such violent content that do not proper for them and the highly risk of leaking private information on the internet. With these risky, I believe that the parental guidance in children’s media exploration is needed.
