I completely disagree with the opinion that a healthy diet and regular exercise are unnecessary for living a long and healthy life. I believe that both are essential because they help prevent diseases and improve people’s physical and mental well-being.
Firstly, eating a balanced diet provides the body with the nutrients it needs to function properly. Foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, and dairy products contain vitamins, minerals, protein, and fibre that support the immune system and reduce the risk of serious illnesses. In contrast, consuming too much fast food, sugar, and processed food can lead to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. As a result, people who maintain healthy eating habits are more likely to enjoy better health throughout their lives.
Secondly, regular physical exercise plays a vital role in maintaining both physical and mental health. Activities such as walking, running, swimming, or cycling strengthen the heart, muscles, and bones while helping people maintain a healthy weight. Furthermore, exercise reduces stress, improves sleep quality, and lowers the risk of depression. For example, people who exercise for at least 30 minutes a day often have higher energy levels and are less likely to develop chronic diseases than those who lead a sedentary lifestyle.
Admittedly, some individuals live to an old age despite having unhealthy habits due to favourable genetics or good fortune. However, these cases are exceptions rather than the rule. Scientific research consistently shows that a nutritious diet and regular physical activity significantly increase the likelihood of living a healthier and longer life.
In conclusion, I strongly disagree with the view that diet and exercise are unimportant. Maintaining healthy eating habits and exercising regularly are two of the most effective ways to prevent disease, improve quality of life, and increase life expectancy.
