There is no denying the fact that a lot of children read storybooks. While it is a commonly held belief that those children are wasting their time and should do more useful activities, there is also an argument that opposes it. In my opinion, I largely disagree with this opinion.
To begin with, Reading improves language skills. In other words, reading helps children to learn new words and improve their grammar, and develop their imagination. These skills can also help them perform better at school. A study published in New York University concluded that, children who read books regularly can improve their language skills and performe better at school. In addition, storybooks encourage children to think creatively and imagine different situations. For example, children who read stories regularly may find it easier to write essays at school.
Another point to consider, the importance of other activities. It is also possible to say that children need exercise to stay healthy and develop strong bodies. Moreover, activities can develop social skills. In fact, taking part in group activities teaches children how to communicate and work with others. For instance, children who play team sports learn to cooperate with their teammates. In conclusion, despite people having different views, I believe that reading storybooks is beneficial because it improves children’s language skills and imagination. However, children should balance reading with physical and social activities.
