Although shopping centers provide a convenient social place, I do believe this trend is largely negative beacause it promotes inactivity and consumerism while depriving young people of valuable skills.
Firstly, shopping is sedentary and this can be cause obesity. The more physical activities children take part in, the more they fight again diseases. Sport also improves their mental health and give them more energy. In the future, young generation may face seriously health problem without regular exercises.
Secondly, organized activities teach crucial skills like playing football. It helps young people to learn teamwork and discipline while practicing a musical instrument develops patience. These skills are useful their entire life.
On the other hand, shopping centers, like malls, encourage young generation to spend money and they may start to think buying new things which is the key to happiness. Additionally, they are safe places where teenagers can meet their friends without paying since spor club or music lessons can be too expensive. This is a fair point, but I think these benefits are small compared to long-term damage of inactive lifestyle.
In conclusion, although shopping centers offer a convenient place to socialize, I believe that this trend is mostly negative because it harms young people’s health and prevents them from developing useful skills. Governments should provide cheaper sports and music programs to encourage teenagers to be more active.
