There is a common belief that companies should allow their staff to engage in physical activities during their working hours. From my perspective, I totally agree with this view on account of reasoning presented below.
One advantage of providing employees with opportunities for physical activity during the workday is to enhance their overall health . Nowadays, employees are required to sit and work in front of computers for extended periods without enough time for physical exercise. This sedentary work routine can result in a decline in health, frequent headaches, extreme fatigue, and the development of chronic eye and back problems. As a result, the increase in sick leaves and staff shortages can negatively impact the company’s workforce. According to a recent survey, individuals who sit for prolonged periods at work are twice as likely to develop heart disease compared to those who spend time standing at work. Additionally, up to 73% of office workers suffer from work-related health issues.
Another advantage is that physical activity during working hours is not only beneficial for physical health, but also mental health, which significantly increases their working efficiency. Exercise is one way to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, which helps employees return to work feeling refreshed and focused. A workforce that prioritizes physical activity is likely to result in higher productivity, improved budget outcomes, and a positive reputation for the company. Besides, employees who are in good physical condition generally demonstrate a more positive attitude towards their work, a quality crucial for roles involving customer service. For example, Toyota witnessed a significant improvement in work performance after introducing a physical therapy program across all their departments.
In conclusion, by integrating opportunities for physical activity into the work routine, employees benefit from improved physical and mental health. It is essential for organizations to provide exercise time for their staff as this practice can enhance employee competence, ultimately leading to increased profitability.
