Band 8+: Some people think that developments involving the internet have brought people closer together while others think that people and communities have become more isolated. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is an ongoing debate about the interactions of people, with some thinking individuals are becoming closer through the internet, whereas others believe that the internet is causing isolation among people. Although there are arguments justifying the isolation caused by the internet, I believe the internet has a profound impact on gathering people.

Some people think that the internet predominantly contributes to isolation, as many individuals spend most of their time on their smartphones. Youngsters, especially, dedicate the majority of their time to playing online games or scrolling through social media, which can reduce the time they spend with their families. This behavior may prevent them from engaging in meaningful family interactions and create a sense of detachment within households. In this context, young people may be isolated from their families.

However, the internet does not always directly cause the isolation. In fact, it can promote connection and social interaction. While it is true that excessive use of the internet, especially social media, can sometimes contribute to feelings of loneliness or isolation, the internet, when used in a balanced way, offers numerous opportunities for communication, collaboration, and community building.

Therefore, I lean towards the idea that the internet has a positive influence on making people closer. In my opinion, by using some social media platforms, humans are capable of creating better connections not only with their immediate social circles but also with individuals living far away. In these days, creating a telegram group is becoming a common trend among adults, as they can communicate with their friends on a daily basis regardless of the distance. This, on the other hand, fosters online communities and helps prevent isolation.

In conclusion, the internet may sometimes play a substantial role in causing isolation if it is used inappropriately. Despite this, I support the idea that using the internet appropriately leads to greater social connections.
