In today’s highly competitive corporate world, the process of selecting the right employees has significantly changed. While some people believe that experience convinces them of the results of their future workers, I strongly reckon that personal qualities should be valued more.
There are two most prominent reasons why some employers prefer ones with experience. Firstly, people who have an experience, do not require extra time and expenses for their education, since they have already worked there and know all the drawbacks. And because of that, experienced workers can jump straight into tasks without making beginner mistakes, which saves a company’s budget. In addition, not only do they save companies’ budgets, but they also bring a high level of predictability. The main reason for this is that because these candidates have already worked in similar places, future employers have already seen their proven results and can fully rely on them. For these reasons, many managers prefer to choose people with a solid shown results instead of taking risks on newcomers.
Despite all those facts, I still hold the view that focusing on candidates’ personal qualities is a much more promising approach. The main reason behind this is that work skills can be easily taught, whereas character traits cannot be changed. If a person is naturally enthusiastic and learns fast, they will quickly master any professional software or routine. For instance, many modern tech startups prefer to hire charismatic and flexible beginners because they adapt to changes much better than older experts. In a result, companies with positive and open minded workers can easily survive market crises and innovates. In addition, putting prioritises on personal qualities comes with the benefit of a healthy workplace. A highly experienced worker can be toxic and ruin teamwork, while a supportive and loyal person holds the team together and increases overall productivity. For these reasons, I personally reckon that a candidate’s personality is the true foundation of their future value.
In conclusion, while experienced employees definitely save a company’s time and bring predictable results, they are not always the best choice. In my opinion, personal qualities like flexibility, loyalty, and a wish to learn are far more important because technical skills can always be trained, but a good character is inreplaceable.
