Some people believe that family has the greatest influence on a child’s development, while others argue that external influences like peers, media, music,… have become more dominant. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining my own view on this matter.
On the one hand, the role of external factors has become more visible due to social integration and technology development. In the digital age, young people spend more time with their peers than with their parents and are likely to adopt similar behaviours, interests and lifestyles in order to fit in. Likewise, television and social media constantly expose children to new ideas, fashion trends and opinions, which can shape the way they think and behave. As a result, these external influences may affect their preferences and habits.
On the other hand, family is often considered as the primary influence to childrens. Parents are children’s first teachers and are responsible for teaching them essential values such as honesty, kindness and respect. These moral principles are usually established at an early age and continue to guide children’s decisions throughout their lives. Moreover, a supportive family environment helps children develop positive personalities, emotional stability and self-confidence. For example, when they encounter negative influences from friends or the media, children with a strong family background are generally more capable of making sensible decisions and resisting harmful behaviours.
In conclusion, although friends and the media can significantly influence children’s interests and lifestyles, I believe that family has the greatest impact because it shapes their character and moral values from an early age, providing a solid foundation for future development.
