In this day and age, elevating the price of fuels for cars and other means of transportation is advisable for the government to cope with environment-related issues. Although this view is reasonable to a certain extent, I contend that other viable measures can be taken instead of overpricing vehicles’ fuel.
It is understandable why people advocate imposing a higher fuel price to confront environmental matters. First and foremost, by doing so, residents will be manipulated into being reluctant to pay through the nose for gasoline, especially those who are price-conscious, hence resulting in a downturn in the number of cars on the road and fewer CO2 emissions. Such a tax has been introduced in France by the government, leading to the country seeing a significant drop in greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, putting a rise in natural gas prices into action may lead to a reduction in using private transportation; therefore, they might utilize public ones to allocate less money to daily commutes, which cuts down on air pollution being released into the atmosphere.
Despite the aforementioned arguments supporting the price of petrol, I would opine that the following solutions would be more efficient. Raising fuel prices is just a short-term stopgap measure; the authorities should adopt more sustainable transport policies. For instance, they are advised to issue ownership limitation policies, which means that every household, regardless of their financial prowess, could only possess a limited number of cars. Last but not least, another solution suggested is to promote clean energy sources. Renewable sources such as wind, solar, and nuclear are also effective in solving the world’s environmental problems as they do not produce many greenhouse gases. Some countries in the world are completely dependent on renewable power to meet their needs, and they are doing their part to solve global environmental problems.
In conclusion, although increasing the petrol price is not without compelling arguments, I believe that the other solutions mentioned above would be more effective.
