Some people claim that the government should allocate more funds to public services rather than arts, such as music and painting. While I agree with some aspects of this view, I believe there are other considerations in favor of art.
Firstly, the major aim of governments should be to improve people’s live through developing healthcare systems and decreasing poverty. Since some people’s financial state is not sufficient to afford their necessary medical expenses, they have to endure some health issues, especially life-threatening ones. On the other hand, poor population is steadily increasing which may lead to various challenges such as hunger, low quality education. For instance, the families in Africa countries struggle with malnutrition which may lead to serious consequences.
However, the governments should not underestimate the role of arts, since they show the cultural diversity of a nation. For example, “Mugham”, which is traditional music genre, is known as the national heritage of Azerbaijan and existing for the centuries. Thus, the governments should promote the artists and spend money in order to improve arts. Additionally, arts not only make the country’s culture rich, but also bring new job opportunities for people who are creative and want express themselves in a creative way. There are many art works that are highly expensive, which may exceed million dollars.
To sum up, although spending money on people’s prosperity should be the main goal of the governments, it is necessary to support and invest in arts in order to enhance cultural identity and career opportunities in culture.
