It is commonly argued that instead of attempting to halt climate change, society should focus on adapting to its effects. In my view, I am inclined to agree with this perspective.
On the one hand, contemporary industrial and transportation advancements have led to a rapid surge in greenhouse gas emissions and the generation of hazardous chemical waste. This has had a direct and detrimental impact on the environment and human health. For instance, air pollution resulting from these activities has been linked to the onset of severe respiratory illnesses such as asthma. Furthermore, the increasingly unpredictable and extreme weather patterns, such as rising sea levels and earthquakes, have the potential to displace entire communities and disrupt livelihoods.
On the other hand, both governments and societies possess ample opportunities to mitigate the environmental changes and ensure safety and stability. Authorities should take substantive measures, such as imposing stringent regulations to limit the release of toxic gases into the atmosphere and adopting policies to combat other forms of environmental pollution. Additionally, concerted efforts to promote the widespread usage of public transportation could significantly reduce carbon emissions, thus lessening the environmental impact.
In conclusion, while the occurrence of global environmental changes may not be entirely avoidable, I firmly believe that through the rapid advancements in technology and evolving opportunities, viable solutions can be found to overcome the challenges posed by climate change.
