It is often argued that rather than endeavoring to prevent climate change, adaptation should be sought. I totally disagree with this statement for a number of reasons, which are explicitly explained in the following paragraphs.
First and foremost, if prevention is relegated, the obstacle will exacerbate. One from myriad changes in climate is global warming. This, in particular, has such dire consequences that will threaten humanity and wildlife unless halted. A case in point is animal extinction, which in turn leads to an unbalance in ecology. Consequently, the regular food chain will be disturbed and thus some rare animals might become dominant while the ones humans relied on for living might become extinct. This is troublesome in itself as it derives a new era in humans and animals relationship, with which humanity is unfamiliar and might be an easy prey rather than a creature in top of food chain. Another feasible outcome could be decrease in polar ice cap. The more temperature of the Earth increases, the more sea levels rise. Therefore, majority of cities will be flooded and diseases will prevail among citizens, for the unhygienic conditions followed by this natural disaster.
On the other hand, there are various measurements that people as well as governments can adopt to adapt. Which I assume the best is to alter the work hours from daytime to nighttime, so individuals are less exposed to sunlight and its heat. What’s more, the desirable temperature after sunset might lure the citizens into walking to their workplace than using their cars and thus contribute to reducing carbon footprint. As like, local farming and local shopping might lead to less emission of carbon dioxide as well as less exposure to excessive heat. Last but not least, Innovation in engineering apartments is a unique adaptation. Quite far-fetched though it may seem, it is not impossible to implement rooftop gardening in all cities. This is beneficial in many ways, one of which is assuring emission of oxygen for the residents of a construction. Whereas with the rise in population increasingly more green spaces are demolished and replaced with residential complexes, much to the detriment of global warming, rooftop gardening sounds a promising solution. A further creativity is to build houses which reflect the sunlight rather than absorbing it. Accommodating in a house with ventilation adequate enough, humankinds will be exempt from the need to consider warming.
Overall, I once again restate my opinion that negligence of climate change is not advisable as it brings about regrettable outcomes. Innovation in engineering, creativity in societal activities, and locally centered lives are a number of ways to live along with new climate conditions.
